This painting by by Sir John Gilbert (1817-1897). The title is “The Arrest of Lady Jane Grey” and it is signed and dated by the artist 1879.  This is very large, measuring 58” x 45” and with the frame measures 66” x 54”. the paint surface is beautiful and the frame is in excellent condition. 

Jane Grey was to be Queen of England, but before becoming queen was arrested at the Tower of London and beheaded. Quite gruesome.
