An oil on mahogany panel painting “After the Duel” by Charles Francois Pecrus (1826-1907). The painting depicts a cavalier in 17th Century clothing with ruff in what appears to be a castle courtyard, sheathing his sword after the duel. The man with which he was dueling lies on the ground, only his boots and lower portion of his legs visible.

The painting measures 13” x 9 1/4” and the site area (visible from the front measures 12 1/2” x 8 3/4” and overall in the gilt frame measures 20 3/4” x 17 1/4”. The painting is in excellent condition with no signs of wear or discoloration. The painting is signed, lower left and a brass plaque on the frame displays the artist’s name and lifespan.
