An oil on canvas painting by Italian artist, F. Rossi depicting a cavalier drummer examining his music. The painting is nicely detailed with a well dressed young man with mustache and shoulder length hair wearing a hat with red ribbon decoration, a yellow coat, white lawn collar and maroon sleeves. There is further red ribbon decoration from his waist and tied around the top of his stocking. He is bending over and closely examining his music sheet, holding one drumstick over the drum and the other over the music. There are some crumpled sheets of paper on the floor, and behind him is his rapier sword leaning in the corner and an armor breastplate or curiass hanging on the wall.

The painting is monogrammed FR in the lower left hand corner, and the name F. Rossi painted on the liner of the frame. This painting had been behind glass for years, which has preserved the bright colors, but the glass was removed as this is not needed for an oil painting and it allows the viewer to see so much more depth to the painting. There was a small area of in-painting from a professional repair. The frame has been repainted and has a few old repairs, but looks good and ready to hang. The painting image site area is 13 1/2” x 9 1/2” and overall with the frame measures 22 3/8” x 18 1/4”.
