English School, Oil on Tin Painting of Soldiers Landing on Shore Dated 1885

$1,195.00

An English School, oil on tin painting monogrammed WP and dated ‘85 for 1885 depicting soldiers landing on shore with a vessel and being greeted by an emissary and scholar. The emissary holds a scroll in his right hand, the conquerors about to come ashore. There is a ruined castle on the hill. The soldiers are dressed in armor and helmets holding halberds.

The painting measures 11 3/4” x 7 5/8” and is on tin affixed to a backing board of some type. The overall frame size is 20 1/2” x 16 1/2” and 4” in depth. The gilt frame housing the painting is amazing in itself, very heavy and in quite good condition for its age. There are a few areas of paint loss on the area to the front of the ship that appears gray from the tin beneath, otherwise is in good condition.
