This large Gothic Revival carved oak cabinet with leaf and vine motif would serve as a wonderful statement piece for just about any room in your house. The carving on the cabinet is magnificent. The top portion of the cabinet features opposing doors with sliding iron locks and a key lock with a central smaller door with key lock. Each of these doors is carved in vine and leaf motif with letters or symbols and features iron strap hinges.. Each top corner is carved with a figural scholar or gentleman. This may have possibly been a wedding chest or cabinet with the bride and groom’s initials on either opposing door. The central stiles on either side of the central door features a carved swan at the top. The two large bottom doors are carved with floral motif and linenfold central panels. The sides of the cabinet are also carved with linenfold panels. There is a great dark patina on the cabinet. The top section sits on top of the bottom portion of the chest, which makes this much easier to move or rearrange.

There is a small chip in the wood on the bottom of the stile to the right of the central door (See 3rd photo). The locks appear to be somewhat newer but still uses an old skeleton key, which is present. Each of the three top compartments have side braces for shelves, but the shelves are no longer present. The bottom of the cabinet appears to have had some work done on the inside. The back is a replacement as well as the left and central upright and the single shelf on the left side. As the outside is what shows, that is period and the most important portion. This would make a great cabinet for storing board games or blankets, or just as general storage. If you are a carpenter or are handy, the inside shelving could be easily reconfigured. The dimensions of the cabinet are 66” High, 55 1/2” Wide and 19 1/2” Deep.
