This is an outstanding original oil on canvas painting entitled "Le Geogrphaies" by the Belgian artist Alex de Andreis and dated 1923.

The painting depicts two men, possibly cavaliers, one seated and one standing in a library or study doing research.  The seated gentleman holding a quill pen, and talking to the standing gentleman looking through a large atlas or tome. The details of the background including the hand woven rug, antique savonarola chair and other furniture is incredible.

Alex de Andreis was born in Belgium in 1880 and served in the military. He is known for painting cavaliers, often in red, but also blue and green coats, displaying arms or weapons such as swords, halberds, or matchlock rifles.  His group scenes display mastery of great detail in everyday objects of the time and typically command a premium over his individual portraits. 

This original oil on canvas comes in the original gilt frame with nameplate listing the name of the painting and the artist's name.  The date of 1923 is adjacent to the artist's signature.

Dimensions of the site area are: 31/ 3/4" " x 25 5/8". Overall dimensions of the frame are approximately 40 1/2" x 34". 

Condition Report: Overall very good condition, bright and clean. Some minor losses to frame, but not distracting or very noticeable.
