Antique Mettlach 3.1L Bicycle Master German Beer Stein dated 1899

Sale Price:$849.00 Original Price:$899.00

This outstanding example of a Master Beer Stein by Villeroy and Boch depicts a bicycle rider leaning against a high-wheel bicycle with the words "All Heil" and various scenes of other cyclists.  In the right panel and man and woman are riding bicycles as cupid aims his arrow toward them. The stein has a capacity of 3.1L and features a figural thumb lift, which appears to be a ram's head. This beautiful Mettlach (made in Mettlach, Germany) stein is 18" tall and signed by W. Schultz. It is dated on the bottom 1899.  The stein has two hairline cracks on the inside.  One at the inside top that protrudes down about an inch and can also be seen on the outside, and another horizontal hairline with some discoloration, only visible from the inside of the stein.

This stein is valued in "The Mettlach Book" by Gary Kirsner at $2200-$2700. A stein exactly like this sold in Copake Auction in April 2016 for $2,600 + premium.
