Antique Mettlach 1L German Beer Stein #2500 "Drunken Landsknechte"

$649.00

This is an antique Mettlach etched 1L German Beer Stein, Mold #2500, entitled "Drunken Landsknechte."  The stein depicts a large barrel of beer or wine and a man serving the landsknecht who seems to be on the ground and wanting to drink right from the tap, while the other landsknecht is slumped over the barrel itself.  The inlay lid shows a tomcat on top of a barrel.  The tomcat is a symbol for a hangover.  The side panels depict roundels with gnomes within a mesh of hops vines and buds.

The stein measures 10 1/2" tall to the top of the pewter thumblift and is in mint condition with no chips, cracks, hairlines or pewter damage.  There is a tiny bubble within the pottery on the inlay lid, which is original to the manufacture and not damage to the piece. The stein is listed in the 2005 edition of The Mettlach Book by Gary Kirsner with a value of $700-$900.
