A nice detailed antique German oil on canvas painting of a pipe smoker by artist Alois Binder (1857-1933). The painting features a full length portrayal of a 17th Century soldier with gray hair and beard, wearing a gorget (armor collar piece) and wide-brimmed hat, high boots, and with a cup-hilt rapier sword buckled to his side. He is reaching up to light his long clay pipe in a profile pose, adjacent to a wall with the plaster coming off and visible bricks beneath.

The artist is well-listed with numerous auction sales to his history. HIs record high price for a painting was $8,360 in 2007 according to the AskArt Database.

This painting measures 17” x 11.5” (sight) and with the frame measures approximately 20” x 14”. It is in overall very good original condition with no obvious damage. The original frame is also in good condition with no signs of damage.
