Antique 19th Century Italian Cassone depicting Knights on Horseback in Battle
This Italian cassone or trunk dates to the 19th century and features high relief carvings of knights on horseback and on foot in battle in front of castle walls. The detail of this carving is amazing, rising from the surface, three dimensionally. The top of the cassone was originally upholstered, but due to damage the upholstery has been removed to reveal wooden planks. This could easily be re-upholstered or left as-is showing the wooden planks. There is minor loss to the carving, the foot of one horseman is missing and one leg of each horse has been re-attached. There are cracks to the wooden top and cracks on the right side due to age. Dimensions are 52" wide x 22" deep x 25" high. This item comes with FREE Shipping via freight service.
