"A Good Meal", Oil on Canvas Painting by Alex de Andreis

$1,895.00

A well-painted oil on canvas painting by Belgian artist Alex de Andreis (1870-1939) entitled verso “un bon repas” which translates to “A Good Meal”. The painting depicts a well-dressed gentleman in 17th Century style clothing, seated at a table and raising his glass of wine or beer, smiling at the meal he is about to partake. In front of him is a salad, piece of bread or pastry and what appears to be a roast chicken as well as both a tankard and wine carafe. The wonderful details of the man’s elaborate outfit including his lace collar, the lace tablecloth and Persian rugs on the floor demonstrate the artist’s great skill.. The light coming through the leaded glass window in the upper right also brings the room to life.

The site area of the painting measures approximately 31” x 25” and the overall size with the gilt frame measures approximately 35.5” x 29.5”. The painting is in very good condition with no signs of damage or paint loss. There are minor nicks on the frame as would be expected from age and use. The back has a gallery tag on the stretcher with an inventory number, artist name and name of the painting. There are other stamps for Paris and a mark of Bristol on the stretcher. (see photos)

This painting comes with FREE Shipping in the Continental US, other areas would incur additional charges.
