Oil on Board Painting - A Cavalier in the time of Louis XIII by Joseph Sloman

Oil on canvas, laid to board painting depicting a cavalier in the time of Louis XIII by Joseph Sloman, after artist Jean Louis Ernest Meissonier. This is a faithfully executed reproduction of Meissonier’s famous painting which is housed in The Wallace Collection in London. Although larger than Meissonier’s original work, the coloring and detail of the face and accoutrements are well represented in this work.

Sloman wan an American artist, born in 1883 and was active and lived in New Jersey. A number of his paintings have sold in auction including a painting depicting Wall Street in New York that sold for $2,370 in 2008 at Skinner in Boston.

This painting measures 16” x 10” and with frame measures 14.5” x 21.5”. The painting is in very good overall condition as well as the frame, which has minor chipping and gilt loss on some of the corners, but not really noticeable unless looking very closely.
