Large French Terra Cotta Water Jug or "Cruche" with Cross Burgundy Region 16L

$599.00

A wonderful large and colorful terra cotta French water jug or “cruche” with a capacity of 16L and with three large handles and pouring spout and handmade indentations depicting a cross beneath the spout and also vertical line indentations on each of the other sides between the handles. This type of water jug may also have been used for wine or oils, and is from the Burgundy region of France, likely the second half of the nineteenth Century.

A similar jug is being offered on 1st Dibs for $1,149.00, without free shipping, so this is basically 1/2 the price, and also features the cross under the spout which the other jug does not.

The jug or jar measures 14.5” tall, and approximately 14” wide with a capacity of 16L. There are various chips, especially to one of the handles and blemishes or flakes to the glaze throughout, but this only adds character to the piece. It does hold water, as the capacity was measured by filling with water.

This item comes with FREE Shipping in the Continental U.S. Shipping to any other areas or countries would incur additional shipping costs. Please see full Shipping Terms and Conditions.
