French School Oil on Canvas Depicting Joan of Arc Signed E. Andre 1891

$895.00

An oil on canvas painting depiction of Joan of Arc, on finding the sword she had dreamt of, in the Church of St. Catherine de Fierbois, devoting herself to it and to service of God and her country. This is a small charming painting signed lower right “E Andre” and dated 1891. Joan kneels on both knees, wearing a wonderful detailed harness of armor, a standard in her right hand and with her left hand on her heart making the pledge. Her helmet, gauntlet, and sword lie on the floor in front of her.

The painting image measures approximately 8 1/2” x 14 1/4” and the overall dimensions including the frame measure approximately 17” x 22 3/4”. The canvas and stretcher bars are old and darkened on the back as would be expected with this age, there are a few old patch repairs to the back. The frame appears to be a contemporary, attractive frame to showcase the painting.
