Franz Wobring, Oil on Canvas Painting, The Jolly Drinker

$1,895.00

An oil on canvas painting by German artist, Franz Wobring (late 19th Century) depicting “The Jolly Drinker”. Our protagonist is standing, but leaning against a table, clutching a stoneware jug from which he is drinking. On the table is a pewter glass spilled on its side with wine on the table. It appears he has decided to drink directly from the jug and dispense with the pewter cup altogether. He is quite the jolly drinker! The painting is signed in the lower left corner. This painting appears to be after an original composition by Eduard von Gruetzner.

The painting measures approximately 34” x 30” and overall with gilt frame approximately 39” x 36”. The painting dates from the late 19th Century, but the frame is more likely mid 20th Century, gilt wooden frame. The painting has some craquelure as would be expected from age, but all paint is present. The frame has some separation in the corners and some minor paint loss in the corners, but displays well. Ready to hang.
