Ernest Meissonier Framed Watercolor on Paper "Ready for Parade"

This is an original watercolor painting by the famous French artist Jean Louis Ernest Meissonier, signed and dated 1860 by the artist in the center left. The painting depicts a a swordsman standing at attention and looking directly at the viewer. He is wearing a plumed hat, red sash, and blue tunic with slashed sleeves, standing on a tiled floor in front of a stone wall bearing an inscription. The painting is titled on the plaque “Ready for Parade” and presented in a gilt and pierced Louis XV style frame. The signature is absolutely correct for Meissonier, whose works are often imitated or copied.

The painting image measures 16” x 10” and the overall dimensions with the frame measure 23.5” x 17”. The painting and frame are in very good unrestored condition. This item includes FREE Shipping in the United States, all other areas would incur an additional shipping charge.
