English School 19th Century Oil on Canvas Painting of a Knight with his Son "Admiring the Sword"

$1,895.00

A finely detailed English School 19th Century oil on canvas painting depicting a knight with his son examining and admiring his father’s sword. The father sits in a large throne chair, leaning his head on his hand while his young son stands in front of him with red shirt with slashed sleeves holding his father’s sword at both the hilt and scabbard looking at the weapon in wonder and amazement. On the right is a table with large stoneware tankard or stein and a glass of red wine. The father has on lace cuffs and his armor gorget with high top riding boots.

The painting is unsigned, but is in the manner of Robert Alexander Hillingford (1824-1904). The image size measures 11 1/2” x 9 3/8” and the overall size of the frame measures 21 3/8” x 19 1/2” and is approximately 4” in thickness. The canvas appears to be in excellent condition and is not lined with no repairs or damage to the canvas. The frame has small losses on both bottom corners and a few minor abrasions throughout, but displays very well.
