Enamel on Porcelain Plaque of Cavalier and Server in Aesthetic Movement Frame

$895.00

A charming 19th Century enamel on porcelain painting depicting a drinking cavalier and server in a wine cellar. The man with gold coat, maroon pants and gray hat with feather, the woman with white, pink, and green dress with an orange apron. The drinker sits with his tankard next to him, the lid open for a refill as her hand holds the serving ewer. The woman has a demure look with her hand on her hip. Next to her are the man’s accoutrements including his coat, belt and rapier sword. The stone arches of the wine cellar and wine barrels frame the image. The painting is signed A. Armand, which is likely Aristide Armand, a French artist of the 19th/20th Century. This is similar in composition to a painting by Tito Conti. The painting is housed in a wonderful aesthetic movement antique frame with brown fabric liner.

The dimensions of the plaque are approximately 9 1/2” x 7 1/2” and the overall dimensions of the frame are approximately 21 1/4” x 17 1/4”. The plaque is in good condition with no visible chips or cracks, and presents well. The frame is also in overall good condition with slight separation at corners and some dirt and accretions as would be expected from age and use. The frame was likely repainted at some point in its long history.
