Charles H Marshall, Oil on Canvas Painting, The Cavalier

$2,995.00

An English School oil on canvas painting of a cavalier, signed boldly “Chas H. Marshall” and dated 1882, titled to brass nameplate “The Cavalier”. This painting depicts a young man in cavalier style clothing with red slashed sleeves, lace collar and cuffs, and a wide-brimmed black hat with red feather, reaching down as if to draw his sword. The young man stands proud, but yet with a look of innocence or naïveté on his face, a reluctant or trepidatious soldier in the English Civil Wars. The artist has depicted him with grace and innocence.

The painting measures approximately 30” x 25” and overall with the gilt frame measure 39 1/4” x 34 5/8”. The painting had a small tear above the eyebrow and was professionally repaired, cleaned and revarnished by Art Post Gallery in Northbrook, IL. The frame also had some damage and repairs completed at Art Post Gallery, but still shows some signs of wear including cracks and old damage. The painting is in ready to hang condition.
