A wonderful impressionist style painting by French artist, Eugene Gabriel Louis Isabey (1803-1886) depicting a raft on stormy waters off a rocky coastline. Isabey is an accomplished and well listed artist with one of his seascape paintings hanging at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. This particular painting is rendered in beautiful colors showing the sky in shades of teal and pinkish gray. Birds flock near the raft, which appears to be in trouble in the resounding waves. The painting gives a true feeling of time and place.

The painting is on panel, and there is a crack to the panel approximately 1/3 of the way from the top which has been repaired and not really visible from the front of the painting. It is signed “E Isabey” in the lower left corner. The site area of the painting measures 8.5” x 14” and the overall dimensions with the frame are approximately 14.25” x 19.25”. The frame has some areas of damage and restoration, but is generally overall good condition, as would be expected from age and use.
