Pair of Schwarzlot Glasses by Josef Lenhardt
A pair of Bohemian glasses by Josef Lenhardt of Steinschönau hand enameled in the Schwarzlot manner with gilt highlights, circa 1890. The first is a beer glass measuring 4 3/4” x 2 3/4” x 2 3/4” depicting on one side a tavern scene with a man smoking a pipe and raising a tankard or stein and a woman server holding a pitcher in the air. The other side of the glass depicts a man and woman dancing around a maypole. The taller, cordial glass measures 6 ¼” x 2 1/2” x 2 1/2” and depicts a hunter standing in a field with birds flying overhead. The other side depicts a castle.
There is minor rubbing to the gilt details of both, commensurate with age and use. The beer glass has four tiny fleabites to the rim. Glasses originally purchased from The Dorotheum, Vienna, Austria, April 29, 2014, Lot# 7003.
