Fritz Wagner, Oil on Canvas, "The Music Lesson"

$4,500.00

A vibrant and finely detailed tavern interior by genre painter, Fritz Wagner (1896-1939), depicting a group of 17th-century gentlemen gathered in a musical and social revelry. True of Wagner’s signature style, the composition evokes the Dutch Golden Age with its warm palette, historic costuming, and careful attention to light and texture. One figure strums a lute while others enjoy drink, conversation and tobacco in a richly appointed room complete with leaded windows, Delft tiles and period furnishings.

The painting is in excellent condition with some fine craquelure. The gilt frame is also in excellent condition and ready to hang. The painting measures 27 3/4” x 33 1/2” and with frame the overall dimensions are 37 1/2” x 44 1/2” x 3 1/2”.
