An exceptional and imposing enameled glass Reichsadlerhumpen (Imperial Eagle Tankard) produced by the celebrated Fritz Heckert glassworks during the late 19th Century. Fritz Heckert was located in Petersdorf, Silesia, which is in present-day Poland. The glass is free-blown, clear with polychrome enamel and gilt decoration. This masterwork of Historismus (historicism) revives the opulent ceremonial glassware of the 17th Century Holy Roman Empire, combining remarkable scale with refined craftsmanship. The cylindrical body is brilliantly enameled with a crowned, double-headed Imperial Reichsadler, whose wings bear the heraldic shields of numerous Imperial Estates, Electors, and principalities. A radiant sunburst behind the wings alludes to the divine right and glory of the Holy Roman Emperor. The text encircling the upper register and the inscribed date “1624” reference a pivtotal era in Central European history, invoking both the Thirty Years’ War and the complex imperial legacy revived in the German Kaiserreich.

The domed lid features applied scrollwork and a blue glass knop finial, while the foot rim and base show hand-tooled detail consistent with Heckert’s finest production. The scale and decorative richness of this vessel indicate it was conceived not for utilitarian use, but as a prestige object - likely commissioned or gifted to commemorate a civic, military, or historical occasion.

The Humpen measures 19” tall and is in excellent condition with minor wear consistent wtih age; Enameling and gilding are well preserved, no cracks, chips or repairs.
