Albert Friedrich Schröder (German, 1854-1933), Oil on Canvas - "Gentleman at Ease"

$895.00

This finely detailed genre painting by German artist Albert Friederich Schröder captures a cavalier figure in a richly textured interior. The sitter, dressed in 17th Century costume with lace collar and striped sleeves reclines at a wooden desk with a goblet and pipe at hand - his posture evoking both relaxation and self-assurance. Sochrder was celebrated in Munich for his spirited historical scenes, often combining a playful sense of narrative with refined academic technique.

The composition demonstrates the artist’s mastery of color and texture: the sheen of silk and velvet, the glint of pewter and glass, and the warm patina of wood ar rendered with precision. The work is signed by the artist in the lower left corner with the city - Munich.

The painting’s site area measures 8 3/4” x 6 3/4” and overall with the gilt frame measures 16 ¾” x 14 3/4”. The painting is in very good condition with no signs of damage. The frame has minor losses and minor repair with retouching of the gold. It is accompanied by an envelope with folded color photo of the painting marked with a Sotheby’s return address in New York, but no receipt or other information. The painting is in ready to hang condition.
