Abraham Storck, Harbor Scene with Dutch Merchant Ship
This painting by Abraham Storck (1635 or 1644-1708) is quintessential to the artist’s scenes of Dutch life in the 17th Century depicting merchant ships and Dutch harbors with individuals on the shore. The large ship in the foreground is well painted with rigging and Dutch flag and a the image of a greyhound on the front. The people depicted on the shore and in the nearby boats are representative of Dutch life on the harbor. The painting is signed, lower left A. STORCK. There is some writing on one of the crates on shore, which can be seen in the 7th photo, but is too difficult to make out.
The painting measures 26 1/4” x 34 1/4” and overall with the gilt frame measures 33” x 40 3/4”. The frame is late 19th Century and is in very good condition and was custom fit to this painting.
